Draft Householder Development SPD for consultation
We are consulting on a draft Householder Development Supplementary Planning Document (SPD)
The purpose of this SPD is to set out the standard of design expected from the development of existing homes in Southwark. The SPD will replace the Residential Design Standards SPD (2011, updated 2015).
The consultation was agreed at Cabinet on 22 July 2024.
The consultation will close on 27 November 2024.

Adopted Residential Design Standards SPD
Our Residential Design Standards SPD (PDF, 824kb) was adopted in 2011. We did a technical update to the SPD in March 2015, in response to changes to the government’s housing standards review. We also made an interim guidance note (PDF, 208kb) to support these changes.
The SPD contains further detailed guidance on our residential design policies for:
- new-build homes
- conversions
- affordable homes
- extensions and more
