Southwark schools for the future
Sure Start programme
The Sure Start programme began in 2004 and is due for completion in March 2011.
This will see the completion of a new children's centre at Bessemer Grange primary school, along with a series of major improvements to the foundation stage at a total cost of some £3m.
Goose Green will also receive £1m to open a children's centre. In addition, some £4.5m is being allocated to a range of small projects in the private, voluntary and independent sector to improve the quality of childcare.
Some early years settings in schools will also benefit, for instance where wrap around day care is being provided as part of the support package for working parents.
