Cobourg Road
The Cobourg Road Conservation Area is situated to the south of the Old Kent Road, immediately opposite Burgess Park, which forms a backdrop to the area. The conservation area is comprised principally of properties in Cobourg Road and on the southside of the Old Kent Road up to Trafalgar Avenue. Cobourg Road is one of the earliest developments, away from the Old Kent Road, in north Peckham and date from the 1820s. These are mostly detached and semi-detached houses of 3 to 4 storeys. Interspersed are rows of later 19th century 2 storey housing on Oakley Place, Loncroft Road and on Cobourg Road itself. This housing appears to be contemporaneous with Cobourg Road Primary School, the former St. Mark’s Church (now New Peckham Mosque) and St. George’s Methodist Church. The cohesive group of commercial buildings between Oakley Place and Trafalgar Avenue on the Old Kent Road are contemporaneous with those in the neighbouring Trafalgar Avenue Conservation Area.
