Cossall Park
Cossall Park Master Plan and improvements
Our Parks and Leisure and Cleaner Greener Safer departments have secured funding to improve Cossall Park in Peckham, SE15. The park is located next to Cossall Estate and has entrances on Wood’s Road and Harders Road.
The Master Plan
In the past, enhancements have been piecemeal, so a Master Plan has been produced to guide future investment. Having a robust Master Plan gives us a strong basis for applications for funding.

Phase 1
The council only currently had enough funding to deliver part of the Master Plan. The Mayor of London’s Greener City Fund is contributing £40,000 towards the delivery of this phase of the project, specifically for ecological improvements.
Phase 1 is going ahead this year, and includes:
- opening up the inaccessible and overgrown area behind the ball court, as a new wildlife area
- a new woodland trail leading to a better entrance on Harders Road
- protected and enhanced nature, with 15 new trees, hedgerows, plants, flowers, and habitat improvements
Improvements shown on the phase 1 plan (PDF, 636kb) include refurbishment of the ball court and a better entrance on Wood’s Road. Due to recent price inflation, these improvements have now been moved to phase 2.
Phase 2
We're in the process of seeking funding for the second phase, which will include:
- a new, high-quality play area
- refurbishment of the ball court to National Basketball Association (NBA) standards, and an additional hoop outside the ball court for practice
- a new panna court for street football
- a better entrance on Wood’s Road, which will be wider, improving access for people with mobility disabilities
- realigned pathways with better surfacing
Public consultation
We've worked closely with the Friends of Cossall Park and Kirkwood Nature Reserve, and residents, to make the park great for everyone.
The first public consultation meeting was held on Tuesday 5 March 2019. Comments have been summarised and are available to download (PDF, 94kb).
The results of the second public consultation held between April and June 2019 are available to download. (PDF, 3.5mb)
Next steps
Join us, the Cossall TRA and the Friends of Cossall Park and Kirkwood Nature Reserve in the park, at an event on Sunday 9 July from 1pm to 3pm, to celebrate the completion of the phase one construction.
There will be live entertainment, woodcraft workshops from the Woodcraft Folk, circus skills workshops from the Purple Ladies, face painting, kids’ yoga, arts and crafts, games and free refreshments.
