Southwark Register Office

Southwark Register Office service provides copies of certificates for births, marriages and deaths registered in the London Borough of Southwark.

London Metropolitan Archives

The original registers of baptism, marriage and burial for the Anglican parishes of Southwark are all at the London Metropolitan Archives. Most records of the local Poor Law Boards of Guardians, who were responsible for operating workhouses, infirmaries, and other institutions, are also held there. All of these records have been digitised and made available on Ancestry. (Ancestry Library Edition is free to use for members of Southwark Libraries).

Records of Southwark's cemeteries

Records of burials and cremations that took place in Nunhead Cemetery, Camberwell Old Cemetery, Camberwell New Cemetery, and Honor Oak Crematorium can be searched through Deceased Online. The cemeteries team can also assist with searches for a fee.
