Genealogical searches
You can now easily find burial and cremation records in Southwark from your own home. There are approximately 770,000 cremation and burial records managed by the London Borough of Southwark, which are all searchable online.
Search burial records
We've teamed up with the specialist family history organisation Deceased Online. The following records are available on their website:
- digital scans of burial and cremation registers
- computerised records of burials and cremations (where registers aren't available)
- details of those buried in each grave
- cemetery maps indicating the area for each grave location
The website is free to search. If you find a relevant document, you can pay a fee to download or print it. Simply follow the instructions on the website.
As well as records for the Borough of Southwark, Deceased Online includes millions of burial and cremation records for other London boroughs and areas throughout the UK.

If you don't have an internet connection
You can use a computer at a local library or contact the Cemetery & Crematorium Service for advice. We're happy to help with genealogical or family history searches. Our team can carry out a search on your behalf for a fee.
Some of our cemeteries accommodate areas of conservation, which may present difficulties in access and possibly unforeseen dangers. Often this will require a risk assessment based on the individual needs. In some cases we may be able to create a path for access, but this is on assessment and charged at the hourly rate of cost for implementation.
If you can't visit yourself or it's unsafe for you to access, we offer a digital service with a printed/emailed photograph of the specific location for a fee. You can email the cemeteries team for further information.
