E-safety
The Southwark Safeguarding Children Board (SSCB) wants to encourage and develop sage use of digital and mobile technologies through the education of young people and the adults who have a duty of care to them. The SSCB has a key role to play in this process in coordinating and ensuring the effectiveness of what to do individually and together to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
In order for the SSCB to support e-safety within the partnership, it's developed an approach (docx, 294kb) that identifies strategic areas such as:
- recognising the importance of e-safety within the wider work of the SSCB
- ensuring all children who have been the subject of indecent images and sexual exploitation are identified, protected and given an appropriate level of support
- recognising that e-safety isn't a technological issue; it needs to be owned and managed by the leadership in the organisation not just IT departments
- recognising the importance of education, training and information
- recognising the need to monitor the impact of the strategy
- recognising the need to immediately report incidents to appropriate agencies including the police and Child Exploitation and Online Protection [CEOP]
E-safety skills are now a new life skill. The SSCB e-safety policy guidance (doc, 158kb) provides a framework for the SSCB and partner agencies to make sure children and young people use their internet and social media safely.
