Grants for school uniforms
Clothing grants are for children aged 11 years old, who are moving from primary school to a secondary state or voluntary aided school in Southwark. The grant is £45 and is in the form of a voucher, which can only be redeemed in person (not online) at the following stockists:
- Whitehall Clothiers - 77 Camberwell Road, London, SE5 0EZ
- APT Clothing Co - 26A Rye Lane, Peckham London, SE15 5BS
- The Stevensons Group (for Harris Academies only) - The Old Spread Eagle, High Street, Epsom, KT19 8DN
- Ark All Saints Academy - for children who will be in Year 7 at this school from September 2024
We strongly recommend you contact each of the above (to confirm they're uniform stockists for your child’s school) before submitting your application for a clothing grant.
How to apply
To be eligible to receive a clothing grant, you must receive one of the following benefits:
- Universal Credit with an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400
- take home pay must be less than £616.67 or 0.00 to qualify
- Income Support
- Income-based Job Seeker’s Allowance
- Income-related Employment Support Allowance (ESA)
- Support under Part 6 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- the guarantee element of Pension Credit
- Working Tax Credit run-on (paid for the four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit)
- Child Tax Credit (with no Working Tax Credit) with an annual income of no more than £16,190
Along with your clothing grant application, you must also submit copies of documentary evidence for each of the following benefits:
- Child benefit letter (dated within the last six months);
- Bank statement showing the payment of child benefit to your bank account (dated within the last six months); and
- Evidence for at least one of the following benefits including:
- Income Support - a letter from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) confirming your entitlement
- Income based Job Seekers Allowances - a letter (all four pages) confirming entitlement
- Child Tax Credit (provided you're not entitled to Working Tax Credit) - letter (all 8 pages) from the current financial year, confirming entitlement
- Guaranteed element of State Pension Credit - a letter from the relevant authority confirming entitlement
- Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 - a letter from the relevant authority confirming entitlement
- Incapacity Benefit - a letter from the relevant authority confirming entitlement
- Widowed Mother’s Allowance - a letter from the relevant authority confirming entitlement
- Universal Credit - your universal credit claim (all pages)
Please note: all documentary evidence must show your home address as stated on the clothing grant application and be dated within the last six months.
