Food Safety
These accredited courses are aimed at learners wishing to work in the catering industry or any setting where food is handled.
Where do the courses take place
Courses take place at the Thomas Calton Centre, Alpha Street, SE15 4NX.
What you'll learn
You will gain basic knowledge and understanding of the key issues in food safety required to safeguard consumers' health. The areas covered are considered vital by the Food Standards Agency to maintain food safety and hygiene.
You’ll learn:
- the importance of safe food preparation
- how individuals can take responsibility for food safety
- the importance of keeping the work areas clean and hygienic
How is the course taught
The course is led by a specialist tutor and will include learning from Powerpoint presentations and group discussions. You will need to pass a short assessment at the end of the course to achieve the award.
Materials you'll need
Bring a notebook and pen or pencil.
After the course
You will be able to apply for employment in settings where food is handled or meet the necessary requirements to set up your own food business.
