Emergency First Aid
First aid is the first and immediate assistance given to any person with either a minor or serious illness or injury, with care provided to preserve life, prevent the condition from worsening, or to promote recovery until medical services arrive.
Where do we teach the courses
Courses take place at the Thomas Calton Centre, Alpha Street, SE15 4NX.
What you'll learn
- responsibilities of 1st Aider
- assessing a situation and getting help
- resuscitation (CPR) and Defibrillation awareness
- burns
- choking
- dealing with an unresponsive casualty
- minor injuries
- epilepsy
- basic hygiene in first aid
- bleeding control
- shock
How is the course taught
The course is led by a specialist tutor and will include learning from demonstrations and participation in practical activities (you will need to be able to do this on the floor as in a real-life situation), and also from video and audio resources and group discussions.

Bring a notebook and pen or pencil
After the course
You will be prepared to apply your skills to a variety of emergency situations.
