Wider council plans and strategies
The council has published many other studies, plans and strategies that help inform the development of our policies and contain aims and objectives that our planning policies and guidance seek to deliver.
Southwark Housing Strategy 2020
The Southwark Housing Strategy (2020) continues the long term direction set in the previous Housing Strategy to 2043, agreed in 2015, but with clearer commitments and updated actions. It responds to challenges of the pandemic, climate emergency and the commitment to foster equality. It consists of four key principles:
- Increasing the supply of genuinely affordable high quality homes that meet our residents’ housing needs and aspirations
- Demanding safer, higher quality, energy efficient homes
- Promoting tenure security and social support in housing, and improving the health, wellbeing and economic resilience of residents
- Empowering residents and communities to have pride and influence over their homes and neighbourhoods.
You can download and read more information about the Strategy.
Great Estates Programme
The Council Plan 2018-2022 includes commitments to launch a Great Estates Programme which guarantees that every estate is clean, safe and cared for and to give residents the tools to garden and improve their estate. This will be achieved through an ‘expand and enrich’ approach:
- Expand - identifying appropriate sites on our estates for building new council homes.
- Enrich - finding new ways of working with residents to improve the look, feel and lived experience of our estates.
