Peckham Area Character Study

We are creating an up-to-date area character study in Peckham. This study will look at the buildings, spaces and places in Peckham. It will look at what makes the different areas in Peckham distinctive. It will look at what is working well in the design of the areas and what is not.

We are consulting on the draft Area Character Study that has been created for Peckham. This is an opportunity to tell us your views on the different areas in Peckham.

The consultation is open from 7 December 2023 to 15 March 2024.

Why your views matter

It is important that changes respond to the character of an area and the desires of local people. We want the Peckham Area Character Study to represent the views of those who live, work in and visit Peckham. We want to know what you like about your neighbourhood and about anything that you would like to be different. These views will inform the priorities and guidance for any future changes in the area.

What happens next

We will review everyone’s responses. We will update the Peckham Area Character Study to reflect these responses. We will also create detailed summaries for each Character Area. These will inform the strategic priorities for the area. They will act as guidance on future policy and development management.

Previous consultation events

Peckham Character Area workshop – Tuesday 24 October

We held a workshop to discuss the draft character areas and the consultation approach for the study. This took place on Tuesday 24 October at Peckham Levels and via Zoom.

Before the workshop, we shared the draft character areas and an extract from the draft character area study. These were identified based on existing information and data available for the area. Please find these below.

We started the workshop with a short presentation on area character. The workshop included two sessions. For the first session, participants were asked to choose one of the draft character areas and share their thoughts. For the second session, participants were asked to discuss the things that affect the character of an area. We then discussed the next steps for the study. Initial community discussion – Tuesday 16 May

We held an initial conversation with members of the community in Peckham. This took place on Tuesday 16 May at the Peckham Levels and via Zoom. We presented the approach we have taken for past area character studies. We asked people their thoughts on the area character in Peckham.
