School Street access permit

Southwark Council has introduced timed closures on streets around many schools in the borough to make the journey to school safer for pupils.

School Street schemes offer a proactive solution for school communities to:

  • tackle air pollution and poor health
  • reduce road danger
  • support a healthier lifestyle by encouraging active travel to school for families
  • and lead to a better environment for everyone

The way it works is by having a temporary restriction on motorised traffic at school drop-off and pick-up times. The restrictions apply between certain hours depending on the school, and are displayed on motor vehicle prohibition street entry signage.

Some of the School Streets across Southwark are enforced by moving traffic enforcement cameras.  If you live in a camera enforced school street, you may be eligible for a School Street access permit.

Our permit solution will automatically know whether you are entitled to a school street access permit based on your address.

School Street access permits are free of charge
