Parking schemes

Estate parking permit schemes have been introduced on some estates after consultation with tenants. If an estate parking permit scheme is in force, no vehicle may be parked on the estate during the hours the scheme is in operation without a valid virtual permit or clearly displaying a valid physical permit. The hours of operation may vary between different estates (and not necessary to display on time plate).

The first permit in the household is free to all Southwark Council residents who are eligible for a permit. Furthermore, it is explained to all residents, we are not guaranteeing they will have access to a parking bay / designated parking area, as the service operates on a first come basis, on availability. 

Where a parking permit scheme is in place, tenants have a duty to ensure family members or visitors are aware of the estate’s parking enforcement schemes. Local estate parking enforcement schemes are published in advance and made known to all estate residents.

Permits can be purchased for carers who help residents who may need medical support from social services. To qualify for this permit, medical evidence and vehicle documents must be presented with the application form. 

The council will consider any application from residents, disabled tenants to designate a parking space specifically and exclusively for disabled parking, where a need is identified.

The council cannot guarantee disabled bays to residents unless strong medical evidence supports their case.

Wherever possible the council will try to provide parking for disabled residents and visitors.

In exceptional circumstances, the council may grant an exemption for parking restrictions.

The council cannot be held responsible for anyone failing to keep to the conditions of the estate parking schemes.
