Help for residents from Southwark’s Cost of Living Fund

1 October 2024

We know money is tight for lots of people living in Southwark at the moment.

To help with the increasing cost of living, and to add to the range of support the council offers people who are struggling financially, we are giving 5,000 residents a £50, one-off payment towards their council tax.

The additional council tax payment of £50 will be received by eligible residents by Friday. This will be for families impacted by the two-child benefit cap and single households of working age in council tax bands a and b.

Councillor Stephanie Cryan, cabinet member for equalities, democracy and finance, said: “Times are really tough for everyone so we will do all that we can to support people financially. I hope this one-off payment means a bit more cash to help those with young children to support, or those who have to pay for council tax on their own.”

The £50 payment will be paid directly to those eligible in their council tax account to reduce their outstanding balance.
