Cllr Kieron Williams, Leader of Southwark Council, responds to the terrible ongoing news from Israel and Gaza

Cllr Kieron Williams, Leader of Southwark Council, said: "The loss of life in Israel and Palestine has shocked and appalled us all. Our thoughts, and I know those of people across our borough, are with those who have lost loved ones in this senseless tragedy.

"My heart goes out to everyone in Southwark with family and friends in the affected areas. We will work with our communities to support anyone affected by these terrible events.

"It is reassuring to see that the Metropolitan Police is putting on increased patrols across London to provide a visible presence and reassurance to local communities. We hope that won't be needed in Southwark, but we will continue to monitor the situation and take joint action if required.

"In Southwark we stand together and reject violence and hatred in all their forms, and join voices from around the world in calling for peace and an end to terror."
