Building works have reached the roof level at one of the new homes sites at Aylesbury Estate in Walworth. Southwark Council and award-winning housebuilder The Hill Group celebrated the milestone with a topping out ceremony at the Aylesbury First Development Site (FDS) B on Wednesday 29 March 2023.
Aylesbury FDS B is managed by Southwark Council and will provide 352 new homes for local people, as part of the wider transformation of the major estate.
Councillor Darren Merrill, Cabinet Member for Council Homes and Homelessness, said: “I’m delighted that we have reached this important milestone on one of the major estates in our borough. I’m so pleased to see the progress being made here to improve and transform this area and create an environment that will support the local community to thrive. The 352 new homes on this site will be high-quality, expertly designed homes that we know our residents will be proud to live in.
“The Aylesbury First Development Site (FDS) is the start of the transformation of the wider Aylesbury Estate that will deliver up to 3,575 mixed tenure homes and 7,800 sqm of employment, retail, healthcare and community space. The redevelopment will create new, thriving neighbourhoods which will be carefully integrated into the wider network of streets and spaces of Walworth.”
Andy Fancy, Managing Director at The Hill Group, comments: “Today marks an important milestone in this next phase of construction at the Aylesbury Estate and we are delighted to celebrate with our partners at Southwark Council. This exciting new residential quarter will soon provide much needed energy-efficient homes to Walworth and help to achieve the ambitious housebuilding targets for London.”
The first new homes from the FDS A are expected to be ready towards the end of 2023, and Phase B is expected to be finished in autumn 2025.
