12 December 2023

Southwark Council and award-winning housebuilder The Hill Group recently gathered to celebrate topping out at the Rennie Estate in Bermondsey, with senior representatives from both organisations taking part in a ceremony to mark the major development milestone.

Rennie Estate

Southwark Council is building 49 new council homes in two new blocks on a site formerly occupied by a car park on the estate, as well as an outdoor gym and children’s playground. The council has also extended an existing playground and made improvements to the lighting at the back of the Rennie Estate as part of the works.

Councillor Helen Dennis, Cabinet Member for Council Homes and Sustainable Development, said “It’s really exciting to celebrate such an important milestone in this development on the Rennie Estate that will provide dozens of new council homes for local people. I’m pleased that the new homes are bringing other improvements to the estate for all residents to enjoy including a new play area and improved lighting. I look forward to seeing the development completed and the first residents getting the keys to their new homes.”

Simon Trice, Managing Director at The Hill Group, said “We are delighted to be working with our partners Southwark Council to provide much-needed affordable housing in Bermondsey and are pleased to reach this key point in the construction of the Rennie Estate project. The event celebrates the hard work of the teams involved and we are proud to have partnered with the council to provide high-quality, energy-efficient homes, which together with the new children’s play area and outdoor gym, will help transform the lives of current and future generations.”

Building works started on the Rennie Estate in early 2023 and the development is expected to be finished by autumn 2024.
