Council appoints leading care provider to four care homes

Southwark Council is pleased to announce Agincare as the new care provider at four older people care homes in the borough.
Agincare is family owned business with a strong track record of supporting people for more than 35 years. They will take over from Anchor on 3 May and continue to provide services from the buildings that are owned by the council.
Their new long term contract with the council covers a mix of services to meet the changing needs of older people in Southwark. This includes residential care, nursing care, and reablement (a type of care that helps you relearn how to do daily activities, like cooking meals and washing). This expansion in the range of services means that residents can stay in the home as their needs change rather than move out to get for example nursing care – this is sometimes referred to as ‘ageing in place’.
From 3 May, the following care homes will transfer to Agincare from existing provider Anchor:
- Bluegrove Care Home in Bermondsey
- Greenhive Care Home and Waterside Care Home in Peckham
- Rose Court Care Home in Rotherhithe
The council is working closely with Agincare to ensure a smooth transition. People living at the homes will be supported throughout with their needs continuing to be met. The current care home team will also transfer across to Agincare.
Cllr Evelyn Akoto, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “We are delighted to welcome Agincare as the new provider for four of our care homes in the borough. We are grateful to the residents and their families who helped us choose Agincare as the best team to meet the changing needs of our older people. Agincare’s vast experience and commitment to our Residential Care Charter, which is about maintaining excellent standards for staff and residents, means we have every confidence they will do a fantastic job caring for the residents.”
Tim Buckley, chief operating officer for Agincare’s care home group, said: “We look forward to warmly welcoming the people living and working at Bluegrove House, Greenhive, Rose Court and Waterside into the Agincare family, and getting to know the local communities. Our immediate priority is a positive transfer for the care home teams, residents and their loved ones so that they feel informed, supported and reassured that the homes remain in safe hands.
“We are very excited about the opportunity to work with Southwark Council, the South East London ICB and other local organisations across the borough to further develop sustainable, quality service provision and meet changing health and social care needs."
