19 new council homes completed in Nunhead

Building works are now complete on 19 new council homes at Daniels Road in Nunhead. Southwark Council built five three-bedroom houses and a block of 14 flats, as well as a communal garden for local people. The site was previously occupied by garages and a car park.
Cllr Darren Merrill, Cabinet Member for Council Homes and Homelessness, said “I’m delighted to see these new homes finished and ready to move in, I know that residents will be thrilled to get the keys to these new properties. Ideally located next to the cemetery, airy and spacious, these homes are ideally suited to cater to our resident’s needs.”
Southwark Council is building thousands of new council homes across the borough to tackle the housing crisis locally and provide desperately-needed new homes for residents. The council already met its target of starting construction on 2,500 new council homes by May 2022, and has plans to start 1,000 more by 2026.
In line with Southwark Council’s local lettings policy, at least fifty percent of the new homes will be offered to local tenants in housing need already living in the immediate area. This means they can stay close to friends, family and the services they already use. The remaining homes will be allocated others on the council’s wider housing waiting list.
Building works started at the development in 2019 and were finished in August 2022.
