Southwark Council gives thanks to carers across the borough

3 December 2021

The care crisis will affect every one of us, whether it is caring for relatives as they get older, responsibilities to those who require life-long care, or ourselves, as we get older or if we become less able.

Today, Southwark Council is saying a big ‘thank you’ to all those who worked on the front line in residential care homes in Southwark during the pandemic lockdowns, with a £100 voucher and personal words of thanks from cabinet member for health and wellbeing, Evelyn Akoto.

Cllr Akoto, who is visiting care homes in Southwark today to thank carers, said: “These unprecedented past two years have been incredibly hard on so many people, but I especially want to thank everyone who looks after others. Their selfless energy to support other people is inspirational and all of us who have relatives in care are truly grateful for all they do for our loved ones.”

The care sector has been acutely impacted by the pandemic, and those working in the sector have continued to support and care for our most vulnerable residents during this period.

One of the care home managers, whose staff will receive the vouchers, said: “We are delighted to hear about this scheme.  It makes a big difference for our care home staff when they get recognition for the amazing work they do. Thank you so much Southwark for thinking of them.”
