Leader joins more than 100,000 Southwark residents vaccinated against COVID-19

The Leader of Southwark Council is now among more than 100,000 Southwark residents who have had their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Yesterday (26 April) Cllr Kieron Williams took up his offer of the vaccination at the Lister Practice, Peckham. This came as official figures published last week by the NHS confirmed more than 100,000 Southwark residents have received their first jab.

Speaking outside the Lister Practice, Cllr Williams said: “Well I’m delighted to say I’ve just had my first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. It was completely painless, I was in and out in no time at all, and the staff did an amazing job – a huge thank you to them and everyone who is helping getting the vaccine out across our whole borough.

“I hope everyone knows by now that the vaccine is the best way to keep yourself safe from COVID-19 and it can really help us to control the virus across the population. So please go down and have yours as soon as you can. If you’re in one of the cohorts that is eligible, look out for the invite and speak to your GP if you’ve got any questions.”

If you are aged 42 and over, an eligible frontline health and social care worker, you receive a carers allowance, have a learning disability or a condition that puts you at higher risk, you can book your vaccine online at http://www.nhs.uk/covid-vaccination or call 119.  Two more local community pharmacy sites wll be up and running from early May.
