OneTech invites Southwark’s new entrepreneurs and enterprises to develop ideas at launch event

11 November 2019

If you are curious about starting a tech or digitally enabled business, have already done so, or would just like to come along to learn a bit more about what OneTech has to offer then this is the event for you. Residents from Southwark, Lambeth, Lewisham and Wandsworth are invited to free taster workshops, with drinks and networking at WeWork, Waterloo, 19 November.

OneTech supports underrepresented tech founders to develop ideas, start up and grow their businesses. After successfully supporting entrepreneurs to raise over £11m and create 80 jobs elsewhere in London, OneTech is expanding to increase the support provided for aspiring tech entrepreneurs and digitally enabled start-ups in Southwark, Lambeth, Lewisham and Wandsworth.

The new programme is made possible by the South London Innovation Corridor, a partnership between Southwark, Lambeth, Lewisham and Wandsworth councils that seeks to make opportunities within the creative and tech industries more accessible to people from diverse backgrounds.

It will offer free opportunities for budding tech founders powered by industry experts Capital Enterprise, UKBlackTech and Foundervine. Aspiring entrepreneurs and founders get access to mentoring, workshops, pre-accelerator programmes, networking, access to free workspace as well as links to paid internships.

Cllr Stephanie Cryan, Cabinet Member for Jobs, Business and Innovation, said: “We are delighted to be launching the South London Innovation Corridor and to help bring about inclusive growth in the creative and tech sectors. These sectors are growing fast but can be hard to break in to. I hope that this new OneTech project will help to support underrepresented tech founders to grow their creative potential and help them to develop their businesses in Southwark.”

Ryan Downes, founder of Stash, an app that teaches people how to invest and manage personal finance via gamification said: "OneTech has been great. Just being around a network of other people who are doing the same thing as you, or going to app launch events and realising you’re not that far behind makes you feel better and more motivated."
