London Snow: impact on regular services - update 04/03/18

4 March 2018

Repairs

Due to the continuing freezing temperatures the council’s repairs team and contractors are dealing with a high number of issues caused by frozen and burst pipes. We are delivering bottles of water to homes that have lost their water supply and engineers are dealing with hot water and heating issues across the borough. Due to the current demand on our services we are only able to deal with emergencies and jobs deemed as right to repair. All routine appointments are being rescheduled. We would like to thank residents for their understanding and patience. If a residents needs to report an emergency such as loss of water, heating or power, they should contact the council’s call centre on 020 7525 5000.

Rough sleeping

The Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) has been in place pan-London since last Friday and in Southwark housing solutions have helped provide some additional spaces  – this involves local authorities and voluntary sector groups working together to provide beds.  Two local examples of voluntary sector provision are the Robes Winter night shelter that operates between November and April and has 35 beds for Lambeth and Southwark and St Mungos also open their winter emergency shelter.  The SWEP will remain in place till the temperatures rise again for a sustained period.  The outreach teams that work in the borough are aware of these arrangements.

For any member of the public who is concerned about someone sleeping rough then an alert can be sent to Streetlink or by downloading the streetlink app on their mobile.
