Peckham Rye Park’s new play area opens with a splash
17 July 2018
Local children splashed and squealed in the brand new water play feature at Peckham Rye Park’s outstanding new play area, shortly after it was opened by Cllr Rebecca Lury, Cabinet Member for culture, leisure, equalities and communities, she was also joined by Ward Councillors Victoria Mills and Renata Hamvas and the friends of Peckham Rye Park, 16 July.
The exciting new play area is specially designed children of all ages; it is inspired by the Tumbling Bay Playground at the Olympic Park, bringing some of its most popular and innovative play activities to Peckham Rye Park.
The new water play zone encourages children to use hand pumps to help the water flow around streams and damns, which they can play in. More fun can be had with a push button water spray, and a sand pit with little diggers. There is also a big climbing frame with tunnel slides, all sorts of wonderful swings and comfortable seating for parents and carers.
The playground is part of the council’s wider improvements to Peckham Rye Park, which have seen investment of over £4million of capital funding go into the park and the common. Years of energy and ideas from both the council and local groups, also helped to deliver a play area that is carefully tailored for the local community.
In addition to the play area, the council has provided a brand new, specially designed children’s playroom, new football changing rooms and a new car park.
Cllr Rebecca Lury said: “The energy and enthusiasm that the creation of this play area has inspired in local people, has helped us to deliver a truly unique and spectacular facility that I hope will bring joy and excitement to children in the area for years to come. This is a great achievement, for everyone involved.”
