Last chance to check out Southwark’s Queerstory Exhibition
3 July 2018
For those who haven’t seen the ‘Southwark Queerstory’ exhibition yet the council has arranged for it to be on show at Southwark Archives from Tuesday 3 July to Friday 14 July to celebrate Pride 2018.
This will be another opportunity to take a look into the fascinating and inspiring history of Southwark’s LGBT+ community after its successful stint at Peckham Levels and, more recently, featuring as part of events at the Science Museum and Tate Modern.
There will also be a ‘Pop-up LGBTQ+ Archive’ table where people can pick up and look through historic campaign flyers, community group newsletters and other items from Southwark’s LGBTQ+ collections.
Cllr Rebecca Lury, cabinet member for culture, leisure, equalities and communities, said: “As London celebrates Pride this month it seemed fitting to give people one last opportunity to learn about, and celebrate, the long and important history of the LGBT+ communities in Southwark and the impact they had on the national stage, paving the way for LGBT equality.”
Southwark Archives are based at the back of John Harvard Library, 211 Borough High Street, London SE1 1JA, and are open as follows:
- Monday 10am to 7pm
- Tuesday 10am to 5pm
- Wednesday Closed
- Thursday 10am to 7pm
- Friday 10am to 5pm
- Saturday 10am to 3pm
- Sunday Closed
The exhibition has been curated by Southwark Council Heritage Officer Chris Scales and is supported by the Southwark LGBT Network.
