eBooks and eAudiobooks
BorrowBox support
The easiest way to access free eBooks and eAudiobooks is through the BorrowBox app. You can download the app for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, Android or Amazon and Kindle Fire.
Once you've installed the BorrowBox app on your device, you'll need to register using the following steps:
- Tap the “Library” field and type “Southwark” into the “Library Name” box. Select “Southwark Libraries”.
- Enter the 8 digits after the SKP on your library / Southwark Presents card into the “Borrower Number SKP” box. If you're not a Southwark library member, you must join online or in a library before using the BorrowBox service.
- Enter your PIN/Password into the next box.
- Tap “Sign In”.
- Read and agree to the Terms and Conditions by tapping “Agree”.
You can access the same account from up to six devices using the app.
Using the app
You can browse the eBooks catalogue from within the app and then download up to 15 eBooks onto your device for an initial loan period of two weeks. You can also renew eBooks a maximum of two times. Once your eBook has expired, it will automatically disappear from your device.
Listening to eAudiobooks on the BorrowBox app
You can browse the eAudiobooks catalogue from within the app and select up to 15 titles to borrow. Complete eAudiobook files are large so you're given the option of downloading the eAudiobook chapter by chapter. Chapters that you've listened to can be deleted to free up space on your device.
Reserving eBooks and eAudiobooks on the BorrowBox app
Reservations are free and can be placed against any eBook or eAudiobook title that's on loan to another borrower. When you place your reservation you'll be told the date that the title will become available for you to borrow. Your reservation guarantees your place in the queue and if a title is returned early by another borrower, you'll be informed. Please note that a reservation counts towards your loan limits for eBooks (15) and for eAudiobooks (15). For example, if you have 10 eBooks out on loan you could have a maximum of five eBook reservations.
Using eReaders (non Kindle)
If using an Amazon or Kindle Fire please see the next section. To use BorrowBox with eReaders such as Kobo or Nook you will first need to download Adobe Digital Editions onto your PC or Mac. If you haven't installed this software yet, visit the Adobe Digital Editions download page and follow the installation instructions provided.
On the first launch of Adobe Digital Editions, click on Help > Authorize Computer. On the following screen, choose Adobe ID from the dropdown menu and enter your Adobe ID and password. If you don't have an Adobe ID, click on the Create an Adobe ID link on the right hand side or visit the Adobe login website and click on Get an Adobe ID.
Sign in to BorrowBox using your Southwark library card number and your surname (which must match perfectly with the surname given to us for your library membership). If you still have problems logging in, contact Southwark Libraries. If you're not yet a Southwark library member join online to start using the BorrowBox service.
