If you require extra support obtaining the skills needed for a job, a range of services in Southwark can support you.

Support within your community

  • Southwark Adult Community Learning - courses for adults to improve at reading, writing, speaking English and number work; help you prepare for work and learn skills
  • Southwark libraries - offer a range of services that support learning including learning about computers or gaining formal qualifications; provide a range of activities and books to help you achieve your goals
  • Children's Centres - offer a range of family support including child and family health services, advice on parenting, local childcare options; access to specialist services for families like speech therapy, healthy eating advice or help with managing money and help to find work and training
  • Start ups libraries - a programme to help aspiring entrepreneurs turn ideas into reality
  • Southwark Works - provide personal, confidential, one-to-one support for Southwark residents looking for a job or a career change
  • Internet and digital skills - help to brush up your computer, smartphone, tablet and online skills (for life and work)

Local colleges and training providers

A range of courses are provided by local colleges, including:

  • Southwark Construction Skills Centre - providing construction and employability training including Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) cards and apprenticeships
  • Lewisham College and Southwark College - provide a range of Further Education (FE) courses
  • Morley College - offers a range of adult learning courses  
  • London College of Communication - offers courses in media, design and screen, preparing students for careers in the creative industries
  • Lambeth College - provide a range of FE and adult learning courses
  • Bermondsey Community Kitchen - free training facility providing a City and Guilds Level 1 Food Preparation and Cookery Qualification and Level 2 City and Guilds Professional Cookery qualification
  • Bosco - provides training for 16 to 19 years olds, including apprenticeships and Supported Internships
  • UAL Creative Computing Institute - offers higher education (HE) creative computing courses and short courses, including short courses for 16 to 18 year olds 
  • Passmore Centre at London South Bank University offers higher level apprenticeships in a range of subjects including digital technology, healthcare assistant, nursing and construction
