Children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

The SEND Code of Practice states that a child has special educational needs and/or disabilities if “they have a learning difficulty or disabilities which requires special educational provision to be made for him or her”.

There is a large body of evidence that shows that children with special educational needs and/or disabilities often experience poorer outcomes than their peers, in health, education and in the transition to adulthood. Improving our understanding of this group is vital to ensure we are best able to improve health, wellbeing and academic achievement, at the same time as reducing inequalities they face.

Southwark Public Health together with key partners and stakeholders have produced many documents identifying the local population needs. Please note that this list will be updated as and when the new information becomes available.
