South East London Combined Heat and Power (SELCHP)

Southwark Council has entered in to a contract with Veolia Environmental Services Southwark Ltd (VESS) to provide heat and hot water from SELCHP plant in Lewisham to some Southwark homes. These are:

  • New Place Estate (Four Squares)
  • Keetons Estate
  • Rouel Road Estate
  • Slippers Place
  • Abbeyfield
  • Pedworth Estate
  • Silverlock Estate
  • Tissington
  • Silwood Estate

SELCHP will begin to provide heat and hot water from waste from December 2013.

This way of providing heat to communal heating and hot water systems reduces carbon emissions by delivering hot water through a network of underground hot water pipes to the boiler houses. This removes the reliance on gas which is currently burned in the boilers of the affected estates.

Combined heat and power (CHP) is an efficient means of energy generation and use, it reduces environmental impacts, in particular CO2 and nitrous oxides emissions, reduces local pollution and it supports national and regional policies on sustainability and climate change.

Please visit SELCHP website for more information.
