Transportation noise

Roads

The responsibility of managing London's road network is shared amongst TfL, the Highways Agency, the 32 London boroughs and the City of London. You can find more information on the TfL website.

Details of roadworks and highway improvements in the borough can be found on the highways section of this website.

We have no direct control over the noise nuisance from vehicles driving on roads. However, if a new road is constructed or there are changes to an existing road network which significantly affect the traffic flows, residents may be entitled to sound insulation or compensation. Affected people are usually notified through the development consent process. Further information is available on the GOV.UK website.

We monitor the environmental noise levels from roads by using noise maps, and via the planning system.

Road Noise Mapping and Action Plans

You can find noise maps (map link to follow) of the borough here.
