Environmental Protection Team (EPT)'s role in licensing

Licensing is a separate permission system to planning. Although both permissions are needed for licensable activities, you can apply for either one first. It's more common that a premises will obtain planning consent before applying for a licence. Planning often consult EPT on the environmental impacts of planning applications.

Reporting noise and ASB from licensed premises

If you wish to report concerns with noise or anti-social behaviour from a licensed premises (including complaints outside of office hours), contact the Noise and Nuisance Team.

Our role in licensing

The Environmental Protection Team (EPT) is the responsible authority for the prevention of public nuisance under the Licensing Act 2003.

Our officers are consulted on:

  • Premises licence applications
  • Premises licence variations
  • Reviews of premises licences
  • Minor variations of premises licences
  • Temporary Event Notices (TENs)

Representations

We can make representations for any licensing objective, but commonly make a representation on the grounds of preventing public nuisance or on policy grounds. You can find out more information about representations and objecting to a license.
