This webpage includes some things that can help you make your home better for the planet. This includes ways to save energy as well as green measures. Some of these will be better suited to different stages of your journey.
Get free energy advice for your home
The Energy Advice Centre is a good place to begin. It is a joint project between the council and London Southbank University (LSBU). You can get free expert advice on:
- grants and funding that may be available for you to make green home upgrades
- measures to reduce home heat loss at your property. This includes double-glazing and loft insulation
The service can’t provide recommendations on contractors or installers for home upgrades.
The Energy Advice Centre is available both in-person and online.
Get free planning advice for green property upgrades
To make green upgrades to your property, you may need planning permission. To help with this, we can give you free pre-application planning advice on green projects for your home.
This service is available to:
- homeowners including owners of flats and houses
- ‘not for profit’ community energy organisations

Energy Savings Trust have lots of advice on how to make your home greener. It can provide advice on:
- saving money
- insulating your home
- reducing draughts
- window and door upgrades
- insulating tanks, pipes and radiators
