Southwark Statement of Licensing Policy 2021 to 2026
The Licensing Act 2003
On 25 November 2020, the council assembly approved the Southwark Statement of Licensing Policy 2021-2026
(PDF, 1.9mb).
The policy was compiled having had regard to the Act, secondary regulations, the guidance produced by the Home Office and responses received to the public consultation exercise undertaken in 2020. It sets out the council’s approach to the licensing of premises and club premises for the sale of alcohol, the provision of regulated entertainment and the provision of late night refreshment.
The policy will take effect on 1 January 2021. Applicants for relevant licences are advised to have regard to the content of this policy in preparing a licence application. It contains important information about local cumulative impact policies, appropriate premises operating hours and best practice management guidance for promoting the four licensing objectives.

On Wednesday 23 March 2022, the council assembly adopted the Southwark Statement of Gambling Licensing Policy. (PDF, 1.4mb)
The policy was compiled having had regard to the Act, secondary regulations, the guidance produced by the Gambling Commission and any responses received to the public consultation exercise undertaken in 2022. It sets out the council’s statement of principles for the licensing of gambling premises.
The policy came into effect on 2 May 2022. Applicants for relevant licences are advised to have regard to the content of this policy in preparing a licence application.
