Staff that show any of the following common symptoms of gastrointestinal infection:
- diarrhoea
- vomiting
Other symptoms can include:
- stomach cramps or pain
- nausea
- fever
Individuals should be excluded from food handling duties and food handling areas if they have an infection of the stomach or gut and/or if they have an area of infected skin that cannot be covered. The length of the exclusion is usually 48 hours from when their symptoms stop. The Food Standards Agency have produced full guidance for food handlers and fitness to work.
