Garden waste collection subscriptions
If you currently do not have a garden waste subscription and need to dispose of garden waste, visit the Reuse and Recycling Centre or purchase some garden waste sacks.
Garden waste collections are an optional service to homes with gardens, for a small yearly subscription charge. The charge for 2024 to 2025 is £80 (the subscription is non-refundable once the subscription starts). This gives a weekly collection of a 240 litre brown garden waste bin. You can pay for more than one 240 litre bin if you need them.
All subscriptions made from February 2024 onwards will end on 31 March 2025. The price and expiry date are fixed, so if you buy a subscription later in the year you will pay the same price as for a full year.
If you don't have a garden waste subscription and need to dispose of garden waste, you can visit the Reuse and Recycling Centre or purchase some garden waste sacks.
Your garden waste bin cannot be used for food waste - you should use the free separate collection of food waste.
You can use your garden waste bin only for organic waste which can be composted, including:
- grass and hedge cuttings, leaves, flowers, weeds
- plants, twigs and branches (no more than 10cm diameter)
You can’t use your garden waste bin for:
- food waste
- fencing or other waste wood
- soil, rubble, stones or gravel
- other materials, including plastic bags, flower pots or trays
You can still compost your garden waste at home, and residents of Southwark can still bring garden waste to our household waste recycling and reuse centre. Homes with gardens will be eligible for the new service providing you have somewhere to store a brown bin between collections. You cannot store brown bins on the public highway/pavement.
