Food waste recycling in flats
We’re extending our food waste recycling service to all blocks of flats this autumn. We want everyone to recycle their food waste.
Around 40% of the rubbish we throw away in Southwark is food. Food waste generates harmful greenhouse gas emissions, but recycling food waste reduces waste and helps tackle climate change. It also saves the council money because recycling food waste is cheaper than disposing it as general rubbish.
To comply with the changing law, and tackle the climate emergency, you must start separating your food waste and recycle it using the new service.
Collections for most Southwark flats will start from late October. If you live in a flat above a shop, your food waste collections will start later.
