Walking in Southwark
Southwark is a wonderful place to walk. Both sociable and free, there's no better way to get around. Whether you’re a motivated walker or need a little extra encouragement, we want to encourage you to spend more time on your feet exploring Southwark.
Whether you fancy a stroll in the park, a walk to work or a full day on your feet, there are plenty of options.
We've done the leg work by offering you 100 detailed routes, which have been created by walking enthusiasts across the borough. Going for a local walk is really as simple as putting one foot in front of the other.
You can also download the full screen map.
We know that worrying about getting lost can be a barrier to walking for some people. If you’re new to walking, a free guided walking group can be a good start. If you’re a seasoned walker, some of the self led routes we've listed could be right up your street.
We’ve mapped local led walking groups (PDF, 38kb) groups starting points for almost 100 walks across Southwark.
In addition, we've gathered a list of links to paid walking tours (PDF, 81kb) that run through Southwark and can also point you to some helpful sites if you'd rather plan your own walking adventure.
If the walking bug bites you, joining a local walking club is another great way to discover new routes and meet new people.
Southwark Council and partners are investing time and money in improving local walking environments to help make walking more attractive. Visit our making better streets for walking page to find out more about these improvements.
