Buses in Southwark – have your say
What bus changes were proposed in London and Southwark
On 1 June 2022, Transport for London consulted on changes to the bus network in inner London, which would have seen Southwark lose some of its most important bus routes, including the 12, 45, 78, 521 and N133.
Why buses are so important in Southwark
Buses are very important for Southwark which, unlike many boroughs, doesn’t have many tube stations. Buses are a cheaper and more convenient way to get around our borough, to and from work, and to the West End and other places that people like to shop, visit, and go out.
Which areas of Southwark would have been impacted by bus cuts
We objected to the proposals and met with Transport for London, the Mayor of London and others to express our views on behalf of residents. We summarised the main impacts on the following different neighbourhoods in Southwark:
- Camberwell
- Dulwich
- Elephant and Castle
- Nunhead
- Old Kent Road
- Peckham
- Rotherhithe and Bermondsey
TFL's consultation closed on 7 August 2022, and the council set out its concerns on behalf of the borough in its Formal consultation response (PDF, 709kb)
