Fly tipping penalties
Southwark Council have adopted and use the Fixed Penalty Notice, under Section 33 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, to tackle the illegal deposits of waste (also known as Small Scale Fly tipping).
This FPN carries penalties of £400 if paid within 14 days, or £250 if paid within 10 days. Should this matter remain unpaid, the maximum penalties (fine) which could be imposed upon conviction at Magistrates Court is £1,000.
Eyesores, such as illegal rubbish, detract from Southwark’s neighbourhoods and local streets. Not only does fly tipping affect residents, visitors and businesses’ overall enjoyment of local areas, it can also cause an increase in pests and vermin.
Penalty payments can be made the following ways:
By post
You can pay by cheque or postal order (please write the FPN number on the rear of cheque/postal order). Make it payable to 'London Borough of Southwark' and send it to either:
- Environmental Enforcement (FPN), PO Box 70063, London, SE15 9EG; or
- 132 Queens Road, London, SE15 2HP
By phone
You can call Community Safety on 020 7525 5763, from 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday, to make payment using a credit or debit card.
