Black on Board - Diversifying Arts Boards in Southwark

Black on Board - Diversifying Arts Boards in Southwark is a free board development initiative for Southwark-based arts, culture and heritage organisations, commissioned by Southwark Council as part of our Southwark Stands Together commitment to anti-racist change in the borough.

Black on Board is an existing programme developed by Olmec, an award-winning social enterprise that specialises in supporting people of colour into governance positions and delivering race equality audits and training.

Black on Board - Diversifying Arts Boards in Southwark is a bespoke pilot programme, building on the strengths of Black on Board and co-designed by Olmec and Southwark Council to meet the needs of aspiring arts trustees as well as to address the lack of racial diversity on arts boards in the borough.

Arts, cultural and heritage organisations based in Southwark are invited to put forward expressions of interest to take part in the pilot programme. It includes trustee equality and diversity action learning alongside a 1 year placement on your board for a Black on Board Special Independent Director, fully trained by Olmec in all areas of governance and race equality.

At the end of the programme arts organisations will have the opportunity to appoint the trained and experienced SID as a trustee to their board and will also receive a bespoke equalities recommendation paper from Olmec.

If your organisation and board are looking to take action towards more diverse governance representation and would like to benefit from participating in this free programme, read the detailed FAQ information and contact the council’s Culture team below to discuss your interest

Places on the programme are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis to eligible organisations.

The deadline for expressions of interest is now 30 November 2021.
