Suspension of parking bays
A suspension of a parking bay can be used:
- to reserve space for a removal van or skip delivery
- for the purpose of loading/unloading
- for building works/delivery of materials
- for weddings and funerals
How to apply
You can apply for your parking suspension online.
Apply for a parking suspension
We require at least seven days notice for a suspension request. The only exception to this rule is when emergency work needs to be carried out (ie gas leak, water repairs).
Payment must be made at the time of submitting your application online unless you have made prior arrangements with parking services to pay by BACS or by Notice.
Payment must be received seven days before the suspension start date. The council provides five working days notice to the residents, business owners and other bay users by displaying yellow suspension signs.
If you need more information on suspending parking bays, please contact parking services by email parking@southwark.gov.uk or call 0800 138 9081 or 0344 800 2736 (find out about call charges).
You can pre-book a removal truck to be on standby giving 2 weeks’ notice, for £597.60 for a 3.5-hour shift between 8am and 6.30pm. Trucks cost £1227.10 outside the hours of 8am to 6.30pm.
Parking suspension charges
Parking place suspensions are charged at £48.10 per day, per one car space. A one off £84.30 admin fee (which is non-refundable) is also charged regardless of the number of days requested for suspension. An admin fee (£84.30) is also payable when amending the start or end date or cancelling the suspension requested. The suspension fee is not refunded if the suspension is cancelled without giving 5 days’ notice.

Do not park in a suspended bay:
- when parking bays are suspended, a yellow warning notice is usually placed on the nearest sign post or lamp column
- motorists should always check that a bay is suspended before parking
- if you are a permit holder or a disabled badge holder and you need to leave your car for several days, you should (daily) check the bay to make sure the parking bay has not been suspended
