Cllr Mwangangye visits Canada Water Leisure Centre ahead of opening next year

Councillor Portia Mwangangye, Cabinet Member of Leisure, Parks and Young People, has toured the new state-of-the-art Canada Water Leisure Centre to see the progress being made ahead of its opening to the public in 2025.
The new Canada Water Leisure Centre will open its doors just under a year’s time, replacing the Seven Islands Leisure Centre. The new facility will be bigger and fitted with a variety of modern equipment. It will have an eight-lane swimming pool (the biggest in the borough), separate learner pool, sports courts, spin, yoga and dance studios and a 150+ station gym.
Designed with inclusivity in mind, the centre will welcome people of all ages, interests and abilities. Trained staff will be on hand to support those with additional needs. The centre will also create job opportunities for local people, with various staffing roles to become available.
British Land are building and then providing Southwark Council with the new leisure centre as part of the Canada Water development, which reached its full height a year ago. Once construction is complete, it will be handed over to Southwark Council to finalise before an official opening date is announced.
The new leisure centre is part of British Land's commitment to supporting health and wellbeing as part of making a long-lasting positive social impact in SE16, along with support for local sports clubs such as Ballers Academy, Fisher FC and Roosters Boxing Club. It will offer people ways to connect with others living around them while keeping fit, helping to boost the quality of life for the people of Canada Water.
