Views sought on new Controlled Parking Zone proposals
12 December 2023
Southwark Council is encouraging residents and businesses to have their say on refreshed proposals for controlled parking zones (CPZs) in the borough.
Following resident feedback and assessments of parking pressures in local areas, the council is now seeking views on smaller, more targeted zones in Queens Road, Dulwich Village, and Nunhead.
Local people now have the opportunity to say if they would like a CPZ, shape plans by feeding back on the hours and days of operation, the location and types of bays, and parking for visitors or customers.
The refined CPZ proposal is part of the council’s Streets for People strategy which seeks to improve air quality and promote sustainable transport options such as walking and cycling.
Councillor James McAsh, Cabinet Member for the Climate Emergency, Clean Air and Streets, said: “We went to the drawing board and developed plans for more focused CPZ coverage based on the views of local people and parking pressures.
“We know that asking people to pay for parking when times are tough is difficult. However, we also know that in areas with CPZs, our residents have seen a number of benefits including, fewer commuters taking up parking spaces, quieter streets, and an improved environment.
"I hope to hear from as many residents as possible to ensure we make a decision based on input from the whole community”.
The deadline for submissions is 21 January 2024. To take part, please visit the Queens Road, Nunhead, or Dulwich Village consultation web pages.
