Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral – Bank Holiday arrangements

Some council services and operations will change following the announcement of a Bank Holiday on Monday 19 September for the funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Libraries

All our libraries will be closed on Monday 19 September. Books of condolence will still be available at Southwark Cathedral, and the council’s Tooley Street and Queens Road offices on the day.

Waste and recycling

Collections will not take place on Monday 19 September. Collections will be made one day later than scheduled (Monday collections move to Tuesday and so on), with Friday’s scheduled collections taking place on Saturday 24 September. We will return to our normal schedule on Monday 26 September.

Schools

Schools in Southwark will be closed on Monday 19 September.

Leisure centres

Leisure centres in Southwark will be closed on Monday 19 September, in line with Everyone Active’s approach nationally.

Youth centres

Our youth centres will be closed on Monday 19 September.

All essential council services will continue in line with normal Bank Holiday arrangements.
