Targeted door-to-door COVID-19 testing in parts of SE16

20 April 2021

Like in a number of areas of the country, a COVID-19 variant, known as the South African variant, has recently been found in Southwark, in the Rotherhithe ward. Southwark Council is working closely with Public Health England in response.

Thank you to residents who have been able to take and return a test. Our door-to-door engagement will finish on Wednesday 21 April, but residents can still collect a Home Testing kit from Canada Water Library Theatre (21 Surrey Quays Rd, SE16 7AR) until 5pm on Wednesday 21 April, and drop it off until 5pm on Friday 23 April. Access is via the fire door at the rear of the library, not the main entrance.

The temporary testing site at Deal Porter Square, next to Canada Water Library, will remain open seven days a week from 9am to 3pm, until 26 April.

Residents who are concerned or have any questions can email PublicHealth@southwark.gov.uk

Sangeeta Leahy, Director of Public Health at Southwark Council, said: “Thank you to residents who have already taken and returned a test. If residents in the area have yet to take a test we encourage them to do so. Tests can be returned to Canada Water Library Theatre until 5pm on 23 April, alternatively residents can visit the testing centre at Deal Porter Square until 26 April. As businesses and venues start to re-open, it is also important that we all continue to follow the current rules on social distancing and meeting with people from outside our household.”
