Not unlucky for some – 13 new council homes approved for Camberwell

26 September 2019

Thirteen may be unlucky for some but not for Southwark as a plans for much needed new council homes have been approved at Sedgmoor Place, Camberwell as part of the council’s sector-leading commitment to build 11,000 new homes by 2043.

The scheme was designed by Levitt Bernstein architects and includes four one-bed homes, six two-bed homes and three three-bed homes. All will be allocated as secure council tenancies at council rent and 50 percent will be offered to local residents in housing need.

The plans also include cycle storage for the new homes and improvements to the landscaping and street frontages.

The new homes will form part of the 2,500 by 2022 target and 50 per cent of new homes will be made available to local residents in housing need.

Cllr Leo Pollak, Cabinet Member for Social Regeneration, Great Estates and New Council Homes, said: “With over 20,000 people on our housing waiting list, we are now accelerating our push to 11,000 council new homes, with new permissions coming thick and fast.

“I am very pleased that we have secured planning approval for 13 more light spacious new council homes on Sedgmoor Place, and I look forward to seeing diggers in the ground and keys handed over to local families.”
