This National Adoption Week Southwark Council is highlighting that local adoption services are now part of Adopt London South.
The local authority adoption services from Richmond, Kinsgton, Merton, Sutton, Croydon, Wandsworth, Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham have joined forces and now become the largest Regional Adoption Agency in the country as Adopt London South to boost the number of people coming forward to adopt children in care and reduce the length of time children wait to be adopted.
Adopt London South is hosted by Southwark Council and will cover the south of London, alongside regional teams in west, east and north London, collectively known as Adopt London.
At Adopt London South specialist adoption Social Workers find families for children, they recruit adopters and offer post adoption support to children, families, birth parents and adopted adults.
Councillor Jasmine Ali, cabinet member for children, schools and adult care said: “By working together with our neighbouring boroughs, we will speed up the matching process for children waiting in care with potential adopters, and support them well to settle with their forever families.
“Southwark is pleased to be leading the regional adoption agency, as by working together as a team, we will maximise the opportunities for transforming the lives of children and families.”
