Canada Water Library hosts business launch for entrepreneurs

17 May 2019

Following the British Library’s launch of its major new initiative of Start-Ups in London Libraries (SiLLs), Southwark Council hosted its very own event in a sunny Canada Water Library.  Over 100 local residents, many of whom were both existing and budding entrepreneurs, came along to the library to listen to several guest speakers.

Amongst the speakers backing the three year project to support local entrepreneurs, were Uto Patrick, Project Manager for Sill at the British Library, Dean Williams, Southwark’s very own SME Champion and local successful entrepreneur Emma Snow.

Cllr Kieron Williams, Cabinet Member for jobs, skills & innovation at Southwark Council started proceedings off by emphasising how important libraries are to the community: “Libraries have always been an important investment for the council and the three Southwark libraries supporting this initiative at Peckham, East Street and here at Canada Water, are perfect examples of how we value these great traditions.

“Like all of our Southwark Libraries they are places of inspiration - where you can learn, work, network and dream – all things vital to becoming a successful entrepreneur.

“We are lucky in that here in Southwark we have a real wealth of people with great business ideas but as anyone who has started up a business will tell you, to make it work you have to get the right advice.  Start-Ups in Libraries will bring that advice to many more of our residents.”
