Council launches new fund for youth designed projects in Southwark

26 March 2019

Southwark Council has launched the Positive Futures Fund, an innovative scheme to help charities and community groups set up inspiring youth projects in the borough.

The Positive Futures Fund is centred on young people and a key requirement of the funding criteria is that all schemes must be co-produced with young people.

Not only are the projects intended to support young people but they will also be central to the decision making process to decide which schemes are ultimately successful in receiving funding.

The Positive Futures Fund will see a total of£500,000 distributed across different projects in the borough. Funding of up to £15,000 is available for one year projects and up to £50,000 for 2.5-year projects. Southwark Council is looking for projects that motivate and inspire young people; these can be borough wide projects or location specific.

As well has having a measurable impact, successful submissions will also address key issues facing young people like knife crime, health and wellbeing.

Cllr Evelyn Akoto, cabinet member for community safety and public health said: “I am incredibly excited to be launching the Positive Futures Fund. It’s a clear example of how as a council we are committed to elevating the voices of young people. At each stage of the project, from design to decision making, young people are a key part of the process. As a council, we want young people to know that they have a say in their future and we want them to work with us to shape the services they use.

“We want to hear from any community group, charity or organisation who can demonstrate their co-production with young people and who want to have a positive impact on young people in Southwark.”
